it's Mike's introduction, and I wonder if they intentionally picked this one for him because the jokes were so strong. It allowed us to fall in love with a new host quickly and easily after Joel left.

This is just SUCH a classic. Mary Jo as Jan in the Pan; Mike's 1st show; a new opening theme. It had to show us MST 3K could survive such a monumental change (and change is how this show has survived over the years!) And it nails it. That's no shot at Parts, but Brain is a slam dunk.

Mike’s historic first episode as host, might be a good thing to see for new fans of the show. Plus the riffing is top notch in that one. I love Parts too, but Brain is soooo classic!

Childhood Favorite. One of the first horror movies I can actually remember watching as a young boy staying up way past his bedtime to see it on a Saturday night late late show! And still one I watch every time I see it on.

This movie is inherently silly and lighter fare is always great with marathons on Thanksgiving.

This film freaked me out at 10 years old, having seen the unedited version on late night TV in the 60's. I thought it would always unnerve me a little, until I met...Jan in the Pan!

I'm a lover of old black and white sci-fi movies, plus Mary Jo's iconic "Jan in the Pan" character, Mike's first film - this is justifiably a classic and must be included.

This is one of the best episodes, in my opinion, and is always rewatchable. The riffs are top notch, and with this being Mike's first show as host the host segments are unique and great as well.

I remember watching this many years ago, and I saw part of the MST version. I thought it was really really funny and I wanted to see the rest.

Though I was aware of MST3k for some time, it was on later than I typically stayed up. This may have been the first one I actually watched when it aired.

It's the first season without Joel in it. The episode is monumental for that fact alone. It's also one of a few episodes that shows Mike adjusting to his new home.

This is such a classic! The quintessential horror of a scientist doing all the wrong things for his selfish love. And what couldn't be more fitting to watch during a Turkey Day meal than a disembodied head in a vat of soup? Yes!

Mike's first episode, the black and white simplicity, the jokes and skits, its timeless repeat factor, and the Comedy Central feeling reach an unavoidable nostalgia that's hard to match.

It;s one of my all time favorite Mike episodes. I love all the riffs and one of the riffs that makes me laugh the most is "Hi! I'm Casey Kasem. This one goes out to a heart-sick lover with a severed head!"

This is one of the first episodes I ever saw and one that my family and I still quote to each other to this day. This is one of the all-time greats, IMO.

Actor Tim Donnelly, who played Richard, recently passed away. I think it would be a nice tribute to him.
ReplyI think that this one is probably responsible for like 90% of my family's inside jokes. It is one of those things that always makes me think of good times with them.
ReplyAside from "Clonus" being my favorite episode of all time, it's without a doubt the best movie MST riffed during their classic years. It was remade by Michael Bay. That alone shows how strong of a film it is. Plus the riffs are hysterical. ALL of them! And the host segments are fantastic!

ReplyThere are few movies in the MST quiver that so perfectly capture the ridiculousness of 70s cinema- inexplicable but hyper-specific science ideas, bad fashion, and the decade's obsession with doom n' gloom endings.
