The Brain That Wouldn't Die
it's Mike's introduction, and I wonder if they intentionally picked this one for him because the jokes were so strong. It allowed us to fall in love with a new host quickly and easily after Joel left.
Reply ReplyThis is just SUCH a classic. Mary Jo as Jan in the Pan; Mike's 1st show; a new opening theme. It had to show us MST 3K could survive such a monumental change (and change is how this show has survived over the years!) And it nails it. That's no shot at Parts, but Brain is a slam dunk.
Reply ReplyMike’s historic first episode as host, might be a good thing to see for new fans of the show. Plus the riffing is top notch in that one. I love Parts too, but Brain is soooo classic!
Reply ReplyChildhood Favorite. One of the first horror movies I can actually remember watching as a young boy staying up way past his bedtime to see it on a Saturday night late late show! And still one I watch every time I see it on.
Reply ReplyThis movie is inherently silly and lighter fare is always great with marathons on Thanksgiving.
Reply ReplyThis film freaked me out at 10 years old, having seen the unedited version on late night TV in the 60's. I thought it would always unnerve me a little, until I met...Jan in the Pan!
Reply ReplyThis is one of the best ever episodes and seems more fitting for Halloween.
Reply ReplyLove this b&w horror film as an episode even though I think Clonus is the better movie.
Reply ReplyI'm a lover of old black and white sci-fi movies, plus Mary Jo's iconic "Jan in the Pan" character, Mike's first film - this is justifiably a classic and must be included.
Reply ReplyI created a pumpkin Jan in the Pan for one Halloween. I'll have to see if I can find the picture,
Reply ReplyThis is one of the best episodes, in my opinion, and is always rewatchable. The riffs are top notch, and with this being Mike's first show as host the host segments are unique and great as well.
Reply ReplySuch a classic. Would love to see an update, and for someone to change my neck juice.
Reply ReplyI remember watching this many years ago, and I saw part of the MST version. I thought it was really really funny and I wanted to see the rest.
Reply ReplyBecause this was the first episode i ever watched as a kid and its still my favorite. Because i too cant find the TRASURE and feel DISPLASURE!
Reply ReplyThough I was aware of MST3k for some time, it was on later than I typically stayed up. This may have been the first one I actually watched when it aired.
Reply ReplyIt's the first season without Joel in it. The episode is monumental for that fact alone. It's also one of a few episodes that shows Mike adjusting to his new home.
Reply ReplyThis is such a classic! The quintessential horror of a scientist doing all the wrong things for his selfish love. And what couldn't be more fitting to watch during a Turkey Day meal than a disembodied head in a vat of soup? Yes!
Reply ReplyMike's first riff..ever, "These people will be exploring issues that are teens issues."
Reply ReplyMike's first show! It's fun to watch the bots be suspicious of the new guy. :-)
Reply ReplyMike's first episode, the black and white simplicity, the jokes and skits, its timeless repeat factor, and the Comedy Central feeling reach an unavoidable nostalgia that's hard to match.
Reply ReplyIt;s one of my all time favorite Mike episodes. I love all the riffs and one of the riffs that makes me laugh the most is "Hi! I'm Casey Kasem. This one goes out to a heart-sick lover with a severed head!"
Reply ReplyThere are ways to get this film to victory. There are ways...mwahahaha. Ways.... Did I mention there are ways?
Reply ReplyYou can’t compare these two! “The Brain That Wouldn’t Die” is a true horror classic, fully deserving of MST3K riffing!
Reply ReplyThis is one of the first episodes I ever saw and one that my family and I still quote to each other to this day. This is one of the all-time greats, IMO.
Reply ReplyMy wife and I watched this movie on our first time together at her apartment.
Reply ReplyI know more of us eat turkey PARTS than turkey BRAINS on Thanksgiving, but I'd be thankful to see The Brain That Wouldn't Die!
Reply ReplyThis one is a classic and you get a shot of the "severed head" from this movie during MST3K opening theme.
Reply ReplyThis was my first exposure to MST3K next to Cave Dwellers and the first episode to feature Mike Nelson! STOP SIGN WHAT STOP SIGN? CURVE WHAT CURVE?
Reply ReplyGutterbumbershoot!! And Mike learns the ropes since it's first episode.
Reply Reply
Actor Tim Donnelly, who played Richard, recently passed away. I think it would be a nice tribute to him.
ReplyI think that this one is probably responsible for like 90% of my family's inside jokes. It is one of those things that always makes me think of good times with them.
ReplyAside from "Clonus" being my favorite episode of all time, it's without a doubt the best movie MST riffed during their classic years. It was remade by Michael Bay. That alone shows how strong of a film it is. Plus the riffs are hysterical. ALL of them! And the host segments are fantastic!
ReplyThis never gets the love it deserves. Only you can prevent crotch fires.
ReplyOne of my all time favorites. Only you can prevent crotch fires. I can't believe this isn't winning.
ReplyThey're dying in America... TODAY!
ReplyGoofy movie that is actually entertaining with great riffs.
ReplyWhole movie is worth it just for the smoking crotch scene, The Island starrring Ewan MacGregor had to pay these people for ripping off the plot lol
ReplyIt has Peter Graves.
ReplyLater on.
Replyhi
ReplyPARTS is PARTS ... also gotta stick it to The Island for bein a slap in the face rip-off ;-)
ReplyThe inspiration for "The Island." Good enough for Michael Bay!
Reply"Only question i ever thought was hard, was do i like Kirk, or do I like Picard" ... Well, now there's a harder question. I have A brain that wouldn't die movie poster on my office wall, that's how much I love it, but Parts just has so much great stuff in it. Hardest. Choice. Ever.
ReplyI'm Peter Graves.
ReplyClassic episode.
ReplyWhile the Brian That Wouldn't Die is a classic (especially with Mary Jo in a pan), Parts is just funnier.
ReplyIt's a movie that Michael Bay shamelessly ripped off decades later, plus Peter Graves for A&E Biography.
ReplyI actually kind of like this movie. Plus, Peter Graves of the University of Minnesota.
ReplyPeter Graves monologue!!
ReplyIt’s one of the best riffs of all MST3K’s. The writing was on point, and the riffs came at the right moments… Makes me laugh and smile to this day!
ReplyI am just hoping for some good parts... At least in the riffs, if not in the movie!
ReplyFull of so many great one-liners!
ReplyAlthough I’ve seen these both a bunch of times, there’s something so earnestly doofy about “Parts:” that makes it one of my all time favorites.
ReplyA VERY underappreciated episode, absolutely perfect movie for riffing (extremely watchable despite being trash) with fantastic jokes. One of my favorites.
ReplyPeter Graves is Peter Graves in: Peter Graves at the University of Minnesota
ReplyBecause Peter Graves is in it...and I think he went to the University of Minnesota
ReplyI need more Peter Graves on my Thanksgiving.
ReplyWe can already quote all of the riffs from The Head that Wouldn't Die already. Gotta expand our repertoire.
ReplyIt's a tough call, because I love both movies, but it would be a GRAVES mistake to miss out on "Parts: The Clonus Horror!"
Reply"Only you can prevent groin fires"
ReplyTitle alone wins it! Plus, I want a new kidney for myself!!!
ReplyBoil-in-bag humans. The gunshot running gag. Crotch fires. Crow's nose job. Peter Graves! What more could you ask for?
ReplyHorrible movie... Perfect for riffing!!
ReplyIt's a weird move.
ReplyI love how clueless these poor clones are and I have only seen this movie once.
ReplySeems like this one doesn't get shown much, so why not something different?
ReplySomething different.
ReplySeeing Crow with a smaller beak is all it took to vote for this episode.
ReplyParts is both superior and horrifically inferior to the brain the wouldn't die, so how could you not vote for this treasure garbage
ReplyHi, I'm Peter Graves, and I think you should feature this in the next episode of Biography.
ReplyI decided on this movie because I haven't seen it before and the title is intriguing, also I know the other very well lol I wanted to mention I got this email while watching Werewolf from the MST3K 20th anniversary box set lol
ReplyShow respect for all the fallen players of these movies we riff. We have lost so many and yet no one knew. its time to give love and praise to those we don't often think or talk about.
ReplyI voted this for my peeps @mst3kaday on IG
ReplyThere are few movies in the MST quiver that so perfectly capture the ridiculousness of 70s cinema- inexplicable but hyper-specific science ideas, bad fashion, and the decade's obsession with doom n' gloom endings.
ReplyI have fond memories of watching this one with my Dad. I taped it the day it aired and is one of my all time favorite episodes
ReplyFor those of us who eat Turkey, parts are important and I think we all have had some horror stories about under or mis-cooked parts. I kinda fits
ReplyBarry Bostwick is the man!
ReplyThe main character always has the best goofy look on his face. It's just so funny
ReplyIt's called Parts! Parts!
ReplyI have not seen this one. Lame answer, but true.
ReplyBecause it reminds me of a good episode of Sliders if that episode was a shlocky b movie
ReplyI haven't seen this one.
ReplyThere's a genuinely interesting story in this movie! Like a 1970s version of The Matrix. Eat the cake! You're going to America!
ReplyLOVE this one, and you can't beat Peter Graves! "Parts is parts!"
Reply*gunshot* Ow! *another gunshot* Ow! *yet another gunshot* Ow!
ReplyNothing says "harvest" like harvesting organs.
ReplyHaven't seen the one, sounds interesting!
ReplyThe Brain That Wouldn't Die is misogynist. Parts: The Conus Horror is HILARIOUS, plus Peter Graves!
ReplyAlways been a personal favorite of mime
ReplyFor the Aunt Clara symposium
ReplyI'm voting for America....TODAY!
ReplyThe Brain that Wouldn't Die leaves me with an icky feeling that doesn't wash off for days.
ReplyBrain that wouldn’t die is great, but parts deserves more attention
Reply“Brain that Wouldn’t Die” is a good riff, but it’s such a greasy, dark, exploitative movie I’ve got to go with my less-favored but more accessible episode if I’m watching in mixed company.
ReplyI want to go to America!
Replybecause we haven’t seen Parts: The Clonus Horror as often as we have seen The Brain That Wouldn’t Die.
ReplyBIOGRAPHY!
ReplyI watched this on an early date with the guy I'd eventually marry. Love at first riff.
ReplyIt's a true classic with RICHARD GRAVES :D
ReplyHaven't seen this as often, so it'd be good to see again!
ReplyThis was such a funny riff on this one.
ReplyI'm Peter Graves.
ReplyOptimal cheese levels, and the filmmakers were very good sports about it appearing on MST3K,
Reply
