First game is always vanilla on offense. They will try to establish the run with basic run formations.

Slightly more runs than passes... if we are smart. Or it's going to be a long year.

Oline should dominate a transfer portal depleted Northwestern front and get the practice running the ball that is needed to win in the BIG.

They will play to win. The way to win is to grind Northwestern down.

I feel we should get a somewhat comfortable lead and start grinding out 1st downs via the run game. But if Oline under-performs and forgets to show up? All bets are off.

Show off our running back talent, as they won't stop us by the end of the game.

You typically pass a lot more when you’re playing from behind.

It will likely be balanced, but slightly more runs. Whipple likes running.

Whips will probably stick to a 54/46 ratio. I know they will be seeking as much balance as possible. An early lead would help balance things back to near 50/50. Early on as they go on attack, I think it may start out close to 60/40.

It'll be pretty close to a 50/50 split, but I'll give the slight edge to the run game. From what I've read our run blocking is better than our pass blocking right now. Much like the TO days I can envision a run heavy 1st & 2nd down to avoid 3rd and longs.

There will be swing passes and screens that will act as substitutes for runs, loosen up the D and spread the defense.

I struggled with this decision. We have talent, but that hasn't been our problem recently. Execution, special teams and the O-line have been our Achille's heal (in that order). If we can improve in 2 of these areas, it should be enough to get us 7 wins.

I think our offense will score a lot more points than last year and the defense will shut more teams down on 3rd downs.

The defense has made progress. The offense not so much. The real problem is Frost's dedication to Martinez. Adrian is a great guy, but his minuses exceed his pluses.

Yep, it needed to happen, just like it would at KU for basketball. Nebraska is still a blueblood in football for now and below mediocrity is not acceptable. Scott got more than his fair chance.

We are at a point of desperation. What do we have to lose at this point? I really thought Scott was our guy and I hate the idea of starting over again. But there was something wrong with Scott. When he spoke at press conferences, he had no passion, no energy, and his eye contact was poor.

The production was there from those coaches. Better to make the decision then, so you can still have a positive impact with recruiting.

The coaching staff and new players deserved to have the 5 games until Oct. 1 to jell into a team. I hate knee jerk reactions and bowing down to a rich donor.

If you are not going to make new hires before the end of the season anyway, what was the purpose in firing them now? It will be interesting to see how the offense performs, but I can't see this as beneficial.
