Commented "Building a team does not start with a QB, it may accelerate with one, but the team needs to build by getting OL and DL to then put more glamorous pieces into the mix 2-3 years down the line. Grabbing a QB that will sit on the bench doesn't accomplish anything."
Commented "Melvin Gordon has had a stellar year, but Gurley was an exception to the new unwritten rule that drafting a RB in the first round is a mistake. Out of the top 10 rushers this year, only one of them (Marshawn Lynch) was drafted in the first round. And even then he is not on the team that drafted him. There are too many instances where college success does not translate to NFL success for RBs, on top of the fact that RBs are not nearly as important on successful teams."
Replied "That's fair, Penn has been good, I always feel like Offensive line is the best way to build, Penn is 31, which isnt necessarily young, but a new young lineman can last on a team for the next ten years, a WR or RB can dominate and fizzle out within 4 or 5, so a complete rebuild in my opinion can wait on WR or RB. My worry would be that Carr could get hurt or go the way of his brother if the offensive line doesn't remain the offense's strong point. A Defensive player might work out, but another DE/OLB seems like overkill with so many holes in the roster. If they go defense, I would think about a safety or ILB that can be a real leader/"QB of the defense". That being said, I think Peat would be better, because you can stash him at RT to learn and then shift him over once things get into gear"
Commented "Derek Carr has already won over a much maligned locker room and has performed okay with an awful supporting cast. He may not be Hall of Fame material, but give him a LT and some playmakers on offense and they start looking like competitors in the AFC West, especially when Manning retires in the next two to three years. Trade down and pick up some draft picks that can be easily convertible to key offense pieces like guards, tight ends and role receivers. Pick up LT Peat with your new first rounder and the Raiders will look mighty dangerous"
Commented "Derrick Morgan had great expectations to be a great DE and a cornerstone of the defense. Blaine Gabbert, although bad, always had a cloud around him from day one. He was drafted way too high, in a position impossible to succeed without significant help. Gabbert was an awful pick and set the Jags back at least 2-3 years, but Morgan was supposed to be a slam dunk"
