Evil Doctor Strange is left alone, floating in the nothingness of his universe. How in the world is he going to travel to a different universe without having already had that knowledge? Sure maybe he stumbled across it during his studies in those centuries, but it didn't seem like that thing he was looking for. I think it is far more likely that Doctor Strange has been possessed or has really let his arrogance get to his head.
