As we've seen in the trailer, Dr. Strange will certainly play a role in What If...? but it doesn't mean its his story. With the potential for it to still play like an anthology series, we're going to get lots of stories that differ from the MCU stories we know, and with the multiverse now open, it will be our way into seeing how these variant timelines exist and differ for our own, ahead of Dr. Strange's story which will take us from Spider-Man No Way Home through Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness & maybe even Quantumania. Plenty of time to find out what Dr. Strange has been up to.

While What If...? will certainly show us different parts of the MCU multiverse, I think the show will answer the questions of where Dr. Strange is during the events of WandaVision & Loki & why he wasn't present in either show. The things Strange learns here will directly setup Spider-Man No Way Home
