This isn't really anything new. Walk into any newsroom across America and you'll see a collaborative environment.

Simple distractions/requests disturb your flow.

I don't think total isolation is great, but having the ability to close a door and focus would be nice

Very distracting and noisy. Hard to concentrate. I work in HR and NO PRIVACY!!! It's difficult to do my job with no privacy at all.

I don't want to hear other people's work or personal conversations. If I need to collaborate with someone, we will make arrangements to do so.

Because I am introverted and need silence and control of my environment, otherwise I become mentally exhausted quickly. Too much noise is also very distracting.

I think there's a time for collaboration and a time to get stuff done. Meeting rooms and open spaces with whiteboards are great for working together to develop the requirements for a project, but, once that's done, it's time to put your nose to the grindstone.

If the workload is light and you are brainstorming then constant interaction is necessary and welcome. However, if I'm swamped and need to concentrate it would be more difficult to be productive in an open layout.

I work in an open office layout now and find it extremely distracting!
