Teachers lack the necessary training to react appropriately in the event of an active shooter situation. They're more likely to shoot a student or give them access to a weapon. Shootings happen fast, if they can't react appropriately automatically they shouldn't carry a weapon.

The inbred Republican party is a joke. I thought teachers were groomers. Now you want them to have guns. Make up your racist minds.

As a career public teacher, I can think of nothing worse than arming teachers and expecting them to deal with shooters when their responsibility should be the safety of the students. This was a terrible idea when it came up in the past, and it is still a terrible idea.

The schools also need trained and qualified security, with sufficient firepower, on campus at all times.

This costly measure would give schools and families a sense of security--as have other $$ measures. But it likely won't keep kids any safer from (exceedingly rare) gun violence on campus.

Two months ago, you posted, "Missouri is at THE BOTTOM for education spending, for our horrifying gun violence, and in so many other urgent areas our lawmakers should be addressing. The actual gun violence frequency is low, however our children are priceless. They deserve protection from criminals.

It is very difficult for me to have compassion for anyone who destroyed so many lives, and will continue to be a threat, to anyone around him including guards, doctors, nurses, prison chaplains etc.. Especially at the financial cost to the society that he attacked. Capital punishment is in order.

We are suppose to set the example, killing Murderers just allows them to get away from living with what they have done. How about a one man cell with a picture of their victim attached to a 6" plexiglass wall, so they have to look at them the rest of their days! It's cheaper!

Nikolas Cruz will be very popular in prison. Many, many friends. He will lose that smug little smile.
