State regulations and taxes are the problem. The people who can afford to build apartments are big money. Reduce zoning regulations, property taxes and get rid of Urban Growth Boundaries to expand land use and create competition. Then rents would go down. Government over reach is the problem period.

There also should be no such thing as Vacation Rentals... JUST FOR RENT Signs.

We moved to Bend, after our town of Paradise, ca. Burned down to buy a home and got priced out immediately! We are now "Apartment Dwellers", that feel somewhat without a stake in this "Great Community!"

It's due to greed. When Bend was still Bend the rents were fair.

Do you think this suspect should be allowed to keep his dogs as his case unfolds?

Exactly! This awful man should never be allowed to own animals for the rest of his life! Once an abuser, always an abuser. No matter that he is a vet. It doesn't excuse this abusive behavior, especially over tiny dogs!

I don't think he should get his dogs back until a psych eval is done and he's deemed ok to own an animal. I also think that your reporter's continued hounding of him for an interview after he clearly declined was appropriate or professional.
