Iowa's biggest issues are related to blocking scheme and mistakes. If there's one thing we know they will get fixed it's the blocking scheme. Once that's repaired, then run sets up the pass, like it should.

A "redirection" of the offense may be needed anyway..while not a good thing obviously, it's not as crippling as CJB, Jewell, King, or Johnson would be.

Love VandeBerg, but not dominating to the point where someone else can't step up and fill in. If he was a 4.3 40 guy and was our only threat, I would say he is irreplaceable. But,that's not the case.

i think some problem lines up with beatheard looking at vandeberg as first option and waiting to long to progress down to other receivers. Now maybe other receivers will get better chance to step up and contribute

I'll take a wait and see approach. But, we're a run first team. If anything, coaching needs to make it a little more creative and I'd start with getting C.J. out of the pocket where he can throw or take off running (helps w/ run game too).

Too much emphasis on WR blocking for the run game and not enough on route running and most importantly....can he catch the ball.

The have more talent than the rest of the west. The teams they played last year are almost the same they will play this year. Saturday was just bad football, this team will be back. They know what is at stake.

While NE and WI were beating ranked teams, Iowa lost to an FCS school. Too many questions/weaknesses right now to call them a favorite.

The rivalry is great for the state and it has been mostly competitive since Ferentz took over at nine wins a piece.

It's a good rivalry and ISU is a power 5 school. Iowa needs to add a big non conference game in another slot.

There are 3 non-conference games that get played each year. Drop a MAC or FCS team from the schedule and replace with another Power 5 school. This is a good rivalry for the state of Iowa.

Keep ISU and drop one of our token MAC games for a high profile matchup. It's one of the few instate rivalries in the nation between 2 P5 teams from different conf + Iowa kids want to beat ISU. Generally, when we can't beat ISU in week 2, we're probably going to get beat by anyone better we play.

Over the last several years the series has been back and forth, but Iowa seems to be more focused on building that national brand that can compete, and recruit with the best in college football. Dropping Iowa State, and booking Power 5 opponents early will only help further establish Iowa football.

if we beat ISU it doesn't matter (you may even drop in the polls), if we lose our season is over. If you lose to ND, USC, Florida, etc. it doesn't hurt, they're good programs and you can still rebound in the polls. You beat those teams and it catapults you in the rankings and sets up the season.

If you're an ISU fan you want it. There is nothing to gain for Iowa and I am simply tired of hearing the national pundits be right about the hox out of conference schedule. They are right whether I like it or not. Why give them a narrative to follow? ryan

While I concede the Cyclones have made the series competitive since 1998 (which is apparently when football started at ISU), I simply don't believe this game offers anything to the Hawks. I would like to see the Hawks play other Power 5 programs.

We can play them every other year, but also open up opportunities to play in marquee matchups and in neutral field games. These would be better for recruiting and more equitable in terms of profit sharing.

I get that it is good for the state but it is still a no win situation nationally for Iowa. I'd rather beef up the schedule. A loss to LSU/Oklahoma/Arkansas or anyone like that is better than beating Iowa St.

Lose lose situation. Now that would change if they became relevant in the Big 12 or at least won 8 or more games a year on a regular basis, otherwise they go the way of the FCS teams. They are an FCS program (or at best MAC) masquerading as a power 5 program anyway.
