It’s hypocritical to complain about people not doing what the scientists/doctors say you should do and then think you’re smarter by doing what the people you complain about are do that upsets you.

He committed a crime.

At this point his reputation is soiled beyond repair. He will be always be known as a Mayor who took bribes. Even if he did go to jail it would be a low key type facility.

He did great job for downtown development. This mistake does not warrant jail time Fine would be better
