First game is always vanilla on offense. They will try to establish the run with basic run formations.

Slightly more runs than passes... if we are smart. Or it's going to be a long year.

Oline should dominate a transfer portal depleted Northwestern front and get the practice running the ball that is needed to win in the BIG.

They will play to win. The way to win is to grind Northwestern down.

I feel we should get a somewhat comfortable lead and start grinding out 1st downs via the run game. But if Oline under-performs and forgets to show up? All bets are off.

Show off our running back talent, as they won't stop us by the end of the game.

You typically pass a lot more when you’re playing from behind.

It will likely be balanced, but slightly more runs. Whipple likes running.

Whips will probably stick to a 54/46 ratio. I know they will be seeking as much balance as possible. An early lead would help balance things back to near 50/50. Early on as they go on attack, I think it may start out close to 60/40.

It'll be pretty close to a 50/50 split, but I'll give the slight edge to the run game. From what I've read our run blocking is better than our pass blocking right now. Much like the TO days I can envision a run heavy 1st & 2nd down to avoid 3rd and longs.

There will be swing passes and screens that will act as substitutes for runs, loosen up the D and spread the defense.

No matter how bad it looks, Dannen has to do what's necessary to keep the athletic department in the black financially. That's the bottom line. He can't allow millions in revenue to be lost just to save face.

Live in Nashville and have been waiting for this game for years. TN canceled the first one for the VTech game in Bristol. We need to be playing more elite teams outside the big10. That was what the expanded playoffs were for, more best on best games. Now we look like the typical SEC team, weak.

Stadium Reno is a horrible excuse. It is cowardice....

It's not cowardice. Dannen only recently was given the numbers on when and how much the South Stadium renovation would cost. He made this move to add an 8th home game to keep the athletic dept from losing millions of $$.

It definitely seems very cowardly, very disappointed.

Not all fans live in Big 10 country, and this was the one game on a future schedule that was within driving distance for me. Not to mention the Smoky Mountains would've been a great travel destination for our fans. The "stadium remodel" excuse seems like a cop-out.

Unfortunately, that January slide might be a bit too much to overcome. I hope they prove me wrong.

With their record, they'll be lucky to sneak into the tourney. NIT seems more likely.

No great BIG teams this year so they sneak in, get a 9 or 10 seed, and continue their perfect record in the Big Dance :).
