There's a very real chance he doesnt even start for OSU next year. His value might never be higher, you gotta jump on the chance to make some money while you can.
Reply ReplyMight not even be the best QB on his team. Plus an injury could lower his draft stock. Strike while the iron is hot
Reply Replyyes going to school is the right thing to do i almost changed my mind after that press conference but ended up realizing again that that he has to compete for his job with potential heisman canindates and his stock wont be any higher then it is right now. and also i dont want to see him get hurt and lose everything when he could have cashed in
Reply ReplyHe may not even win the starting job. He should have struck while the iron was hot.
Reply ReplyHe wasn't recruited by Urban Meyer, J.T. Barrett was, so there's a very real chance that Meyer sticks with "his guy" and rolls with Barrett next Fall. If that's the case, then Jones will still be stuck on 3 games worth of game tape over two seasons which might not be enough to get him drafted. If Jones wanted more time to decide, he should've declared then taken the extra 72 hours to keep or rescind his draft status.
Reply Replypro teams draft on potential and inane combine stats like how long of a wing span a dude has... Your potential is only as good as you are..if he goes back and messes up then he will end up like a 3 or 4 or even 5th round selection. The difference in game checks between a potential first rounder and a 5th round is huge. Ask Dan marino ( of miami dolphin fame) what happens when you have a stellar jr season and don't leave for the draft. When his senior season sucked the nfl wondered if Dan was taking drugs. He went from being a number 1 over all pic and fell to the 26th pick of the first round.

cardel jones make grate deceson to go on nfl. cardel re mind me of tim teebow. teebow grate nfl quartbeck and cardel all so gong grate
ReplyHe needs to show that he's not another Jamarcus Russell. Even if it's just more practices, he'll be better next year.
ReplyIm not sure why I voted yes, but judging by Ohio States past, Jones probably isn't doing his hw any ways so school doesn't really matter. The guy will be immortal for the next year and I say live it up until he goes to the nfl and probably gets drafted by some terrible team where he fails and ends up selling cars for a living.
ReplyI see the money argument. But surely now he's went back, teams will love his character. Determined to prove people wrong and he had a tough week for a Bowl winner. If he starts and plays poorly he'll still get drafted for his physique. If he does well he can maybe even push Connor Cook. If he doesn't start...well, we'll see.
Replyschool's important
ReplyOnly time can really tell whether this is the right decision for his future. He has top 10 potential but could fall as low as undrafted if he plays poorly and gets benched. He must have his personal reasons for staying and that should be good enough for him.
ReplyWhether or not football is in his future having an education is more valuable in the long run. His decision is for his family not for football.
ReplyVery inexperienced, still has a few things to work on, and we need to see if he can earn the starting job in OSU rather than just having it passed down because of injuries and how well he does over the course of a full season.
ReplyNeeds more time and experience.
ReplyHe's a freshman he probably wouldn't be a high draft pick even if he did win the championship he only played in 3 games. And he'll have to battle out J.T. Barrett and Braxton Miller for the job next ye
ReplyWhatever decision he made would've been "right." We can argue what we would have done but there is no wrong decision.
ReplyThe kid is raw. He needs some refinement. I don't know if Urban Meyer's system is the best for that but he needs to improve his decision making and ability to read coverages. He has ELITE arm talent and excellent pocket awareness and mobility. I hope it works out well for him.
ReplyCardale Jones I don't think would have been drafted paticularly high and likely didn't sport the mindset needed to succeed in the NFL. He may have passed up the opportunity for some money now, but he's setting himself up for greater growth now. And worst case scenario he sits, develops some more and doesn't play for Ohio State for the next season. But he still has the opportunity to get drafted next year regardless and now he has the ability to really prepare for the draft and learn what he needs to do when meeting with teams and understanding the game to possibly go higher.
ReplyAfter 3 games? No way was he ready. It was the right choice to stay in school. His education is his priority, and if he's really the beast they were estimating him as he'll beat out Barrett. Miller is probably leaving, so he WILL get a shot. Good choice. He'll get money regardless.
ReplyHe needs time to develop
ReplyMore experience would definitely help him and he might not even be sure if he wants to play in the NFL. If he wants to get a college education we can't really talk crap about it. Great decision for the kid.
ReplyYes he could go back for a degree after his career is over but he is barely 1st round material and he has played only 3 or 4 games in college. He would not go before Mariota or Winston. The best he could hope for is late 1st. Needs too much mechanical work with his feet and needs to show he can lead in the locker room and on the field for a full season. Plus he leaned heavily on OSU's strong run game, rarely showcasing his skills.
ReplyI have always felt that it is more important to get your degree than leave early. For him to have made this decision shows a ton of maturity on his part. Rumor has it Miller may be looking to transfer, which would mean a battle between Jones and Barrett for the starting job next year. If Barrett isn't fully recovered, the QB job would fall to Jones. If Jones doesn't win the job, at least he would have a degree to get a job when he graduates.
ReplyBetter decision for his long term career not a decision based on immediate draft stock.
