I'm afraid to come to Columbia now in the evening. It seems like these gangs are everywhere and don't care who they kill.

I have lived here my entire life and it's only getting worse. Columbia being halfway between STL & KC has always been an issue with gang & drug crime but now it's as though no one values how precious life is. I'm sad & scared living here.

The price of growth is high crime, happens in all Citys that desire to increase. Since we have a lot of people 3/4 a year, things will only get worse because they didn't build the infostructure while they expanded! Growing more only hurts us more.

It seems like every time I read the news around my area, there are shootings every week in Columbia, many times at places I have been or drove by recently. I moved from St. Louis to Callaway county to get away from the violence. I never feel safe in Columbia.

I'm more worried about the conditions that create violence. People can't afford anything right now, and it's really starting to impact people's psyche. We'll continue to see the rise of crime until we deal with the material conditions that create it.

COMO does not have a monopoly on violent crime. Until a viable plan to reduce the crime is developed and the underlying problems causing the crime fixed, we will continue to have crime. For those who think this is a liberal issue, WAKE UP! It's not.

Liberal judges have created most of the problem. And Columbia has more crime than most cities it's size.

Chicago, Detroit, New York; all liberal Peoples Republic of China type cities with left wing liberal wunderkinds running the show need to share their secret of gun and crime control. Otherwise, the rest of us just don't have the same kind of "know what I'm sayin."

I moved here from Kansas City in 91, and still the crime rate doesn't even come close to what I grew up with, dodgeing bullets since I was eight. If you make new laws, it will only effect the citizens, not the criminals. You can buy a throw away for $50 downtown.

So we can get off this gun train then? Thanks from experience.

Christopher, you say the price of growth is high crime? I guess you've been buying that new federally illegal class 1 marijuana, that the state is selling. The price of growth, should improve everyone's lives.
