If this were any other democratic nation in the world there would be no cost for higher education at all in the first place. We are the only free nation that discriminates against people getting a higher education based on wealth.

And this will cause more inflation and the taxpayers will pay for it

Agreed, but it goes beyond wealth. Education is an investment in the future of the entire country. Look at most of the other responses here. People who want to destroy the country to protect a bad-haired 80 year old celebrity. Maybe $10K in student loans would have opened their minds

Specifically, expand Public Service Loan Forgiveness.

These are some of the people who will probably default on other bills and then want taxpayers to bail them out. They signed the contract to repay their student loan and they should be held accountable.

It's not fair to the parents who paid for their children's college educaiton nor to the people who have already paid off their student loans. And it will not improve the economy.

They racked it up, they should pay for it and NOT the taxpayer!! this is pure misuse of power to solicit votes before the election.

Taxpayers shouldn't be saddled with debts like this. This is totally unfair to all those who paid off their own debts as well as all those who didn't take out student loans.

What is the precedent moving forward? I paid my student loan. Get a job, live within your means, and don't expect the American tax payer to pay your debt. You took the loan out, figure out how to pay it off

Though we should look at why it's so expensive in the first place, prices have skyrocketed. It's totally unreasonable.

No one forced the students to take the loans, and now everyone else has to pay for them? The bigger priority is taking the "Print Money" button away from the Democrats!!!

Absolutely not ! What kind of a message does this send, no need to take responsibility for your actions and just a political ploy to buy votes for midterms. Administration said this would happen right away but waited till now. Just like the inflation bill. Slap in the face to working Americans.

A "loan" is an agreement to repay. I attended as I could afford my college education. I paid my kid's way so they could attend without using loans. If someone can't afford their education, they should wait or pause their education.

I paid back every penny of the student loans that I took out many years ago. Besides, I question the legality of this being a function of the executive branch of our government.

They have lost their minds. No we should not. They don't have any concept of basic economics or personal responsibility. Brandon is only trying to buy votes this November.

We came to town in 1989 and opened our store the day before Fred Meyer opened. This enabled me to raise a family when Bend was perfect with only 30,000 people. Mt. Bachelor would pick up kids at the elementary school & teach them how to ski. Time have changed & not for the better. We sold and left.

This community enjoys the outdoors and spending time with friends and loved ones so being out and about to cafes, breweries, shops etc, is a perfect way to spend time...and money.

The Bend City Council has a pattern of going through the pretense of public input then ignoring it and going with their predetermined decision.
