OMG, hardwood floors are terrible! Each home I buy with wood floors are immediately covered in plush, luxurious carpet. I own 7 homes at the moment, and can't fathom the appeal! They're loud, cold, uncomfortable to walk on, and don't ever think about plopping down and sitting on them. Yuck!!

I prefer carpeting in living and bedroom areas; quieter and warmer. I do like hardwood floors but don't like them throughout the house as it doesn't absorb sound. I don't like tile at all - too hard on knee and hip joints.

It depends on the room, because I don't want my bathroom to be carpeted. I like hardwood or tiled floors in hallways, kitchen, bathroom and dining room areas.

When we built our retirement home hardwood was the obvious choice -- hickory with beautiful grain -- except for those areas like bathrooms where tile is better.

With a few strategically placed rugs really works for me. Carpet never really seemed clean to me.

I have allergies and asthma. No amount of vacuuming and clean gets rid of the miniscule particles in carpeting. I grew up in a house with real hard wood floors. I didn't know then what I know now. Would love to get rid of my carpeting and replace it with wood, even if it's a laminate.

It's easier to clean a hardwood floor than ot is to clean carpeting. Also, insects tend to invade and hide within carpeting no matter how much I vacuum/clean rugs.

Carpet is a great collector of filth and bacteria, and cannot be thoroughly disinfected as hard surfaces. The upkeep is a challenge as well.

As an often sleep deprived, clumsy, and also outdoorsy person, hardwood is easier for me to keep clean. Plus hardwood floors are so pretty and you can always change rugs to create a new look which is easier and cheaper than new carpet.

They are actually easier to care for and if you or anyone in your family has allergies hard wood floors can be cleaned more completely and efficiently. I think it's harder to put your feet on cold hardwood floors upon first getting up in the morning. Answer- slippers!

I have animals, like us as they age they have issues. it is easier to maintain a wood floor then it is to clean carpet after an accident.
