Eve just seems to be better person overall, and considering that the significant other being a normal person is a weak spot for superheroes that the villains tend to target, Eve would be the safest partner to have.

We've seen what Ragnar turned Canute into, that much is clear, and so is the reality of the failure to be like that. He would be dead without Askeladd.
