Leaving the choice up to the publishers as to what content to curate gives far too much power to a small group of entities in the industry. Democratizing the process ensures a wider range of views and content get expressed and decreases the chance for industry manipulation.

Since publishers have access to ample data, and insider knowlege and contacts, they should drive the curation process, while utilizing consumer feedback, to ensure high-quality content that is in demand.
ReplyEven though consumers might be knowledgeable, they don't have the responsibility to be unbiased. Hence, their views can be influenced by personal bias. On the other hand, publishers have the responsibility to not only ensure the accuracy of the content but also it's neutrality and unbiased view.
ReplyWhile consumers may contribute excellent insight into an industry, publishers have the responsibility and resources to provide researched information without personal bias, leading to more organized and objective information being presented.
ReplyI think publishers should curate content, so that important and meaningful information can reach the readers. Curating content makes the publisher look professional.
ReplyAlthough user generated content is valuable, I think publishers should have the final say as they have greater expertise with respect to content curation.
ReplyPublishers are businesses, and they have the right to curate content however they see fit. They have a responsibility to their employees and shareholders to ensure that quality content is being added to their site.
ReplyContent is often driven by "newness" and a desire to find the next big thing. Not only is this a financial incentive, but new movements are what inspire artists to truly develop and fine tune their craft making truly great works. Readers tend to want more of what they already know they like.
ReplyThe resources they have to ensure accuracy is what's needed to create compelling content.
ReplyI think having user submitted content is great! However, publishers need to have the final editing eye in order to ensure accuracy, and that the content fits with their brand.
ReplyIn the current state of media I think it's important to involve audiences but the professionals need to be attentive to the facts and presenting relevant information.
