The Gophers had poor coaching in this game. Despite averaging 4.7 yards per carry between Minnesota's RB's Shannon Brooks and Rodney Smith, Minnesota decided to throw 33 times. However, It was promising to see a defense who was shredded by QB Mitch Leidner last year (and a good Iowa defense) dominate in the pass defense Saturday. They held Leidner to a 39 percent pass completion percentage. But, the run defense still has room to improve.

I admit they did look better against Minnesota, I am not convinced that their defense will be good enough to compete with top-tier teams like Wisconsin and Michigan at this point.
