While he is in the twilight of his career, he can still play an important roll as a backup point guard and mentor for the younger players on the team. The Eastern Conference is weak and he can be an important piece to help the Hornets push for the playoffs.

He's pushing 40 and only averaged 7 points and 3 assists last year while losing his starting roll during the season. Parker was good for many years, but he's easing into his twilight years in the NBA. The Hornets could have used this cap room for a younger, more productive player.
