Awards shows should be about the red carpet, seeing your favorite celebrities and enjoying the evening by celebrating the best of the best in whatever entertainment medium hosts the awards show. Leave politics for the songs, shows, movies, YouTube videos or whatever, but leave the politics out of the shows so fans can simply enjoy them.

Politics should absolutely be a part of awards shows because of the large audience they attract. If someone wants to make a political statement, it's an open forum to do so. Americans have First Amendment rights to express themselves, and talking about politics at awards shows is one way to do that. Politics are an important part of American life, and we should discuss politics more often as a culture to encourage people to become more active in government or to take a stand for important causes. Kendrick Lamar's performance at the 2018 Grammys is a perfect example.
