Movies and shows such as the "Purge" series are entirely possible the way American society is going. Police are being shot and killed, while police are brutalizing and shooting innocent citizens. It's only a matter of time before things break down further and society erodes even more. Purges aren't a good idea, but it could happen at some time in the future.

The purge could never happen in American society because there is too much law and order. If things get out of hand, state governors can call in the military or national guard to maintain order. States are already loosening marijuana laws, which should clean up a lot of the crime and keep jails less crowded. Instead of having a purge, society should focus on helping people heal.
