Shouldn't matter who wrote it. I have liked one of an author's books but the other ones usually disappoint

Authors can write about many things, some are not really interesting to me.

I do have my favorite authors, but it's always the subject that makes me want to read/listen to the book.

What does the subject of life mean to you? Do you want to know more about someone you know or so me random ranting about different items? You would choose something that brings pleasure. The subject.

For example, you would want to know the subject of what my first two questions were. The subject of the sentences were that they were just hooks!

I prefer a subject over author because a few authors I know don't write the same subject their whole career.

I've discovered many good authors reading an unfamiliar one.

I've enjoyed many books by unfamiliar authors. OTOH, there are many well known authors whose books I wouldn't touch.

I enjoy romance novels especially from Debbie Macomber.

Another tough one where I’m a little bit on the fence. I do tend toward a certain genre and will look for favorite authors, but not all are consistently good.

I have a number of "favorite" authors that I follow. I often use them as "starting points." (ie- if you like Dorothy Gillman, you will probably like Janet Evonivitch) I now follow ~100 or so.

Certain authors are known quality. If I have enjoyed prior books by that author I am likely to enjoy others.

Good authors write good books the majority of the time. I like to follow authors as they progress with their books
