Easy fix. I just put in a maintenance request with our apartment and they come to either repair or replace the appliance.

I don't hesitate calling for factory service. While I'm pretty handy, today's appliances are more computer than mechanical. Factory service ensures it will be fixed correctly with approved parts. I love using handymen, but not for appliance repair.

Having a mechanically talented husband helps in the long run.

We live in an apartment; and just call maintenance if something breaks.

Modern appliances are not designed to be readily fixable any more

The problem with a major breakdown, like a refrigerator or washer, is that it takes time to arrange a fix or replacement. Because everything today is computer-chip generated, its not something you can fix with duct tape and a screwdriver.

It really depends on the appliance. I can fix 99% of them, but there is always the one...

I wish I did but a good quality emerald is so expensive. Yes, there are "created" emeralds, but unlike diamonds which look great, the created emeralds do not.

To continue my story (this is 3/3), I was very envious when one of my best friends got faux emeralds for her birthday and wore them first. However, I was happy to wear mine anyway. My friends bulled me because I was a "copycat" even tho they all knew I had received mine first. #meangirls!

My parents got me faux emeralds as my first pair of pierced earings and I looked at them in the box until my mom could find the "self-piercing" rings that slowly worked into your ear over a couple of weeks. When I proudly wore my birthstone earings to school my best friends bullied.

My birthstone is Amethyst. I like it. I like the color. But one, I prefer Emeralds. And two, I don't wear jewelry anymore.

No, I have no rubies, and I wept mock tears for my husband's benefit answering this.
