it is our "unique value proposition", it's what makes KC different & special. We need to be a bit more bold and proud of being nice, honest and forthright.

We're not aggressive enough in marketing our strengths.

Agree with the author that it makes discussions less constructive.

KC nice actually means KC is run only by certain people

I was pleased to be a part of a symposium hosted by Shughart Thomson many years ago. Studies done for that event said the same thing. The visiting Mayor of Denver said the same thing.

Our historical strengths can also be our future - KC is built on transportation, infrastructure, finance, and animal husbandry because we are/were a "cow town" and there's a lot to like about that.

Actualy, all the cows are gone to places like Dodge City and Hays, Kansas. Like it or not, it's our heritage, our legacy. If we try to change that to high tech only, we loose our real identity.

I've been puzzled for years why KC people are so defensive about who we are. I've lived lots of places and this is an awesome city that needs to embrace it's roots.

KC hasn't been a 'cowtown' for years and referring to it as such is anachronistic and encourages backward-looking. New millenium, new outlook. We are so much more than just an Ag Industry town.

Kansas City was once a literal cowtown, but there are no cows in the streets of KC these days. Let's not be ashamed of our past, but let's appreciate and celebrate our amazing progress. If a stranger referred to KC as a "cowtown," I would certainly bring them up to speed. #cowtownnomore
