According to KC Star's Dave Helling, a reporter's job is to "observe and record a candidate's statements, then compare them to the record, known facts, previous positions and the opponent. Then publish the results for voters." All politicians must know that their negatives will be amplified and they shouldn't blame their shortcomings on the press.

Pendulum theory plus faith, I guess. I can't bring myself to visualize the country without a strong working press and tend to think that a combination of self-reflection and outside examination will make it self-correcting. Ask me again on Nov 9th, assuming we don't have another debacle like 2000.

Watching Shannon on Ruckus &he seemingly completely innocently askd what I thought was a singularly stupid question tht its possible he was bing facetious but I doubt. Th question he asked in the context of Kansas tax stupidity was "Don't tax cuts work elsewhere?" NO THEY DONT! WHY DONT U KNOW THAT?
