TSA is pure theater: They don't actually make us safer--they only make us feel safer. It's nothing more than optics and not the way to make commercial air travel safer.

Passenger screening is essential: While TSA could use an overhaul (like cutting the shoe-screening and a re-orientation toward people as threats and not things), but don't forget that TSA was established in response to the epidemic of hijackings in the late 1960s and got a shot of adrenaline after 9/11. We need passenger screening as part of a multi-pronged campaign that has made it safer for us to fly.
