Roll carts come in various sizes for small families and/or handicapped. Carts are cheaper to use and are not bothered by cats, dogs, possums, skunks, raccoons. Carts contain waste in a more eye appealing and sanitary way. Carts don't allow waste to be scattered on the ground like bags.

This is the only place I've lived that doesn't use bins. The animals get into it half the time and where are you supposed to store it while waiting for trash day? After the initial expense of new trucks, labor costs will be greatly reduced due to 1 driver. Let's get out of the stone age Columbia!

On trash day, the streets in otherwise pretty neighborhoods are strewn with garbage, which is a serious hygiene issue. It's hard to believe someone thought not having roll carts was reasonable.

The current system is the most ridiculous thing I've encountered in any place we have lived. Please, for the love of God, change to the bins like the rest of the country.

I enjoy putting my trash bags in other bags and then again in another bag (assuming I can find a place that has them) after animals tear through the bags that I put out the night before but I can't help but think there has to be a better way.

No need for people to pick up bags. Just one person per route, the driver. Check out Moberly. Even if the city of Columbia does not run it, it will be better for the citizens.

The city shouldn’t be in charge of any utilities. Especially waste removal.

Because the roll carts won't work everywhere, there is a very large percentage of Columbia that has hills trees culdesacs that would be difficult if not impossible for a lift truck to operate, the system now is fast and efficient.

Then why not have the consumer make the choice of what they want? Why can't the people that pickup the trash be trained to handle both bags and carts? Would that require too much training and management? It is obvious that about 75% of the people commenting feel carts are better. Stone Age Columbia!

How many times do we have to vote on this? Fine for students & young people, but older, disabled, can't deal with them. We voted this down once. Why are we doing it again???

Until you get it right. Read the arguments for roll carts. Many very good reasons. Very few valid reasons for plastic bags.

Trump has destroyed every thing. Living in a median begging for money for my booze...but still have my phone and EBT card.

Amen, to that Eric. I know exactly how you feel, and what you are saying. A liberal's interpretation of Proverbs 22:9. Your satire is exquisite.

Never had a big budget for holidays or birthdays. We have too much stuff already so we concentrate on time together and a few useful thoughtful gifts, often hand-made.

Obviously, an article regarding Christmas, will not get many views in a blue city like Columbia.

On Christmas, my kids often just ask me for meaningful advice. They are in their fifties, and they have learned enough to know, that they can always learn more. We still give each other the benefits of our skills that we have acquired over the years. These gifts are priceless, and they last forever.

Christmas commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ, believed to be the Son of God. The celebration focuses on the Incarnation, or God becoming human. You don't need money to celebrate that.
