Rivers is elite. You don't let these guys walk out the door. The Chargers will undoubtedly franchise tag him if contract talks break down or he's unhappy with a move to LA. As for the trade rumours - Rivers is a franchise QB, and Mariota is an prospect. The gain is too little, the risk is too great.

I don't think Rivers holds the value people are assuming. Coupling him with the #17 pick wouldn't interest me if I was a QB-less team in the top 6. He's 34, lacking deep arm strength, has a long history of injuries (3 last year), and one year left on his deal.

Rivers is still solid. Mariota is still timid.

Dont be ridiculous

San Diego will franchise Rivers if necessary. Chargers would have to receive a lot more than just the chance to get Mariota to trade him away. QB's are drafted in the first round all the time, few end up being rivers caliber.

Not sold on Mariota, can't see them trading for an unproven rookie that could take years to develop for a solid veteran.
