I do think it is important to be able to express yourself by a nice handwritten letter. It says something about your being a person of patience and intelligence. That you can learn.

I did when I was a teenager. Then my mother found it, read it, and yelled at me about what I wrote. So I stopped keeping a journal after that.

I started journaling when my son was killed on a motorcycle. I have 9 steno books of those horrible early days of grief. Almost 20 years later, I have never opened them to read my thoughts.
