Movies are more popular than ever. Worldwide gross receipts of movies are up, bolstered by two great entries into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and plenty of independent movies are doing well. Disney accounts for one-third of 2018's gross box office receipts, at a whopping $6 billion as of July. The company's acquisition of Fox only seems to bolster Disney's hold on box office gold. As more and more movies make more and more money, we're looking at a second Golden Age of movie-making. Mind-blowing effects and movie technology certainly help.

Movies are becoming passe in the world of YouTube, online entertainment and social media. As younger generations seek out different modes of entertainment, movies should either adapt or die. More and more Hollywood legends are passing away, underscored by the death of Nancy Sinatra Sr., the first wife of singer and actor Frank Sinatra, at 101. She lived during the true Golden Age of Hollywood, in the 1940s and 1950s, when legends made names for themselves. There is never going to be another time like that one, when movies were made and not generated on computers.
