Matt VandeBerg has the best chemistry with Beathard and is targeted the most. The receivers were already having a tough time getting separation. The Hawkeyes were also struggling to score with him. Without him, it looks like that will continue the rest of the season.

Iowa's biggest issues are related to blocking scheme and mistakes. If there's one thing we know they will get fixed it's the blocking scheme. Once that's repaired, then run sets up the pass, like it should.
ReplyA "redirection" of the offense may be needed anyway..while not a good thing obviously, it's not as crippling as CJB, Jewell, King, or Johnson would be.

ReplyLove VandeBerg, but not dominating to the point where someone else can't step up and fill in. If he was a 4.3 40 guy and was our only threat, I would say he is irreplaceable. But,that's not the case.

Replyi think some problem lines up with beatheard looking at vandeberg as first option and waiting to long to progress down to other receivers. Now maybe other receivers will get better chance to step up and contribute
ReplyI'll take a wait and see approach. But, we're a run first team. If anything, coaching needs to make it a little more creative and I'd start with getting C.J. out of the pocket where he can throw or take off running (helps w/ run game too).
