In the short term, the Lakers get an MVP candidate from last season that's starting to get back in the flow. Thomas will bring a scoring punch and veteran leadership to the young L.A. team. More importantly, Thomas and Channing Frye are both free agents. If the Lakers let them walk, the team will have a ton of cap space to pursue a major free agent, or two, during the upcoming off-season.
