The 2018 Daytona 500 had plenty of storylines. It was Danica Patrick's final race for a NASCAR team, and she was caught up in a wreck halfway through the race. The winner, Austin Dillon, drove the Number 3 car (Dale Earnhardt's number) to victory on the 20th anniversary of Earnhardt's lone Daytona 500 victory. The runner-up was a 23-year-old rookie named Bubba Wallace (racing for Richard Petty), the highest-placing African American racer in Daytona 500 history (eclipsing a 50-year-old record). There were plenty of crashes, too. It was a great race, and one of the best in a long time.

The Daytona 500 is always a special race, but this one didn't stand out because there were too many wrecks. There needs to be good, clean racing rather than all the spin-outs and wall-slamming. None of the favorite drivers competed at the end, and the winner only led the final lap of the race. In terms of hard racing, 2018 Daytona 500 needed a little more racing and less drama.
