Manny Machado is one of the best shortstops in baseball, and he was on a team (Baltimore Orioles) who are completely out of contention in the American League playoffs. Clearly, Baltimore is in rebuilding mode and the club needs to take advantage of the trade. Machado was Baltimore's best player, with a .315 batting average and a .980 fielding percentage, both of which are career highs. He's worth five prospects, for sure, because Baltimore has yet to cash in on this trade. The Dodgers got a steal. Machado is at his peak and can take L.A. to the next level.

No one in professional baseball is worth five prospects, including Manny Machado. Baltimore still has a lot of work to do in developing its five new prospects, and the club got a steal for Machado. The Orioles are obviously rebuilding after a horrible first half of the season, and if they train their five prospects in the right way, they should be a force to be reckoned with in a few years. Even if at least three of the prospects pan out, Baltimore still did better than L.A.
