The allegations against men's basketball coach Tom Izzo include that his basketball program was complicit in sexual abuse crimes for years. Izzo, like Larry Nassar, faces pressure to resign lest MSU face tough sanctions from the NCAA. At best, MSU's program should be banned from postseason play. At worst, Izzo is out, the NCAA limits MSU's scholarship players for years and essentially guts the program. Sponsors are pulling out, so it's serious. This is pending an official investigation to see who knew what in the athletic department, but the campus is still reeling after the Nassar scandal.

The NCAA won't punish Michigan State's basketball program too much because sometimes sanctions go too far. Just look at the SMU football program that still hasn't fully recovered from when the NCAA handed down its one and only "death penalty" in the 1980s when it banned the team from competing at all in 1987. The NCAA learned from SMU and it won't be so heavy-handed. The NCAA could have banned Penn State's football team from competing for the actions of the coaches in the Jerry Sandusky scandal, but it didn't. The NCAA will do the same here. At worst, Izzo is out and MSU loses scholarships.
