Considering the large, continent-sized island of trash in the Pacific Ocean, Americans can afford to go without drinking straws at public places. There's only one planet Earth, and humans need to preserve their planet as much as possible. Reducing the use of drinking straws is a good first step, but cities and businesses must do more to help the environment. Kudos to those who ban drinking straws or refuse to sell them. Besides, paper straws are biodegradable and don't destroy ocean life.
