"Black Panther" isn't just a movie about Africa or African roots. It's about the hero inside of all of us. Plenty of people want to be heroes while they struggle with their own issues. Black Panther illustrates that and more. T'Challa dealt with the death of his father in a previous Marvel movie, and he became Black Panther before he might have been ready. Instead of eschewing his new role, T'Challa embraces it and does his ancestors proud. Everyone can relate to someone who wants to step up and show the world what he can do.

"Black Panther" is just another superhero movie in a glut of superhero movies. Tons of people plan on seeing it, but the hype is overplaying everything. Sure, it's one of the most ethnically diverse movies ever in the history of American cinema, but that doesn't mean this is a watershed moment for filmmaking. Just like James Cameron's "Avatar" or "Titanic," this is just another movie rather than a leap forward for Hollywood. Next year should be back to the same-old song and dance.
