Because now everyone is so scared that no one will stand up for themselves and there property. Instead we watch them through cameras steal and damage our property. The main reason for the massive crime is that no one will do anything and the criminals know it.

Because violence of every stripe has increased in Las Cruces over the last 16 years. It is a gun, it's a knife, it's a carjacking, stolen vehicle and the list goes on. Las Cruces, in my opinion, is becoming a very unsafe community. However, my gratitude still goes out to the LCPD and Chief Story.

New Mexico in general is a very dangerous state. Either the laws are too lax, or the police aren’t up to snuff. Or perhaps both.

I lived there in the 60s and 70s when Las Cruces still had a genuine small-town vibe. I still get little hints of that when I go to my old neighborhood, but for the most part 'Cruces has turned into a sprawling, sweltering suburb of El Paso.
