My dog Ringo was a shelter dog. He's a German Shepherd/American Staffordshire Terrier mix, we got him when he was about 6 months old, he's now 14 years old. Can't remember life without our 90lb couch potato! We also currently have three cats, all rescues.

Thank you and that is WONDERFUL! There is something to be said about people who are not surrounded by animals.

Exactly! They save us more often than us saving them. What horrible life would exist without our babies! There is nothing better than fur, 4 paws and a cold nose!

I don't have a pet now, but my last two GSD's were from a shelter.

Be sure to adopt more into the family. Life without fur babies is a diminished life. So many need our love and attention.

1 cat, 1 dog were brought from a shelter. All the rest (over 20 since childhood) were gotten free from others, rescued, or born from litters of our pregnant cats. 3 generations of one cat line and another pregnant rescue. We spay and neuter now that we can. And we spay and release local strays, now.

Our cat Gale came from a shelter, as did Kipling who we are still mourning. Our other two came from the litter of a family member's cat.

Thank you and I share in your grief. No matter the pain and emptiness left from their passing the love, kindness, joy and happiness that they give us while here can never be replaced. When tears of sadness and loss turn to smiles from past memories of just how delightful they were makes it worth it.

My dogs (6) are rescues but did not come from a rescue. My cats are previous ferals or road rescues.

I voted this way because my dogs DID NOT come from shelters nor did my cats. All of my cats were feral and I took them in. Fixed them and now care for and love them. My dogs came form other homes who were wanting to get rid of them, so... kind of a rescue. But I do believe that we should rescue!

My rough collie didn't come from a shelter but from a terminally ill person who needed to find a loving, forever-home for him. I've had 13-year-old Emmett for 11 years. I need him a whole lot more than he needs me!

My wife prefers pure breed AKC registered dogs.
