These effects are particularly harmful for students who are unsure of or exploring their gender identity,it is argued. Uniforms also place an additional cost on families who already have to pay a significant amount for school books and stationary. Show Less

With everyone wearing the same thing, it is not possible to see who has or hasn’t got the latest expensive brand clothing, and so socioeconomic disparities appear less stark in the classroom. When all students are dressed alike, competition between students over clothing choices and the teasing of those who are dressed in less expensive or less fashionable outfits can be eliminated.
