These are professionals and should be held to the same standards as everyone else. It's a part of their job to be cognizant of their audience. Just like anyone else they are expected to perform their job to the best of their abilities and be held responsible if they mess up.

Words can't be taken back, and when your audience is as large as it is for the olympics, extra care should be taken.
